Computer-Controlled Machines

BEST Cutting Die continually invests in the latest equipment to stay ahead of industry demands. Our skilled technicians oversee 40 pieces of CNC equipment and more than 100 machines, combining hands on expertise with advanced automation to deliver precision results at speed. Our large scale capabilities allow us to craft dies up to 26 inches in diameter and 120 inches in length, handling even the most demanding production requirements.

Our CNC machines are equipped to perform:

  • Accurate positioning
  • Turning and grinding
  • Horizontal and vertical milling
  • Wire and conventional EDM

Hand Forging

Every cutting die we produce begins the same way — with skilled workers hand forging steel at the start of the process. This foundational step is a deliberate choice. Hand forged cutting dies produce a sharper edge and a more durable structure, making them better equipped to perform in demanding production environments. We stand behind hand forging because of the distinct advantages it brings to every die we manufacture:

  • Performance: The sharper edges and reinforced structure of hand forged dies allow them to hold up under high production conditions without sacrificing precision.
  • Uniformity: Our workers craft intricate details with greater accuracy and eliminate defects such as internal gas pockets and voids that can lead to load failure.
  • Strength: Our forged steel cutting dies are flexible, resistant to chipping, and through hardened up to 56 Rockwell for lasting durability.

Heat Treatment

Every forged cutting die we produce is also tempered in our in house salt bath to a depth of 20 to 25 mm. This specialized treatment process gives our cutting dies a significant advantage over standard alternatives, allowing them to be sharpened approximately twice as many times as competing dies. The result is less distortion, a more uniform finished product, and a longer overall service life.

To support dies of all shapes and sizes, our in house heat treatment processes and on site vacuum furnace give us the flexibility to heat treat a wide variety of die sizes under one roof.

Salt Bath & Tempering Depth

All Forged Cutting Dies are tempered in our in-house Salt Bath to a depth of 20-25mm (approximately 1/3 of total height). Added depth allows BEST Dies to be sharpened approximately twice as many times as Dies made by other suppliers, and the salt quenching causes less distortion and produces more uniform and consistent hardness.

The Salt Bath heat treating process allows us to achieve a consistent hardness on the cutting edge of the hand-forged die, while allowing our customers to easily work with the back-half of the die when needed. Due to the fact that salt can attain very high temperatures (> 700° C), and because it displays remarkably uniform heat-transfer characteristics, molten salt heat treatment is considered to be the die tooling best choice in hardening hand-forged cutting dies.

In-House Heat Treatment

All our forged cutting dies are also tempered in our in-house salt bath to a depth of 20-25 mm. This treatment process means that our cutting dies can be sharpened approximately twice as many times as other dies, and it leads to less distortion and more uniform products.

Our in-house heat treatment processes and on-site vacuum furnace allow us to heat treat a variety of die sizes.

In-house Vacuum Furnace

The capability of having all in-house inspection, testing and vacuum heat-treating equipment enables BEST to have complete quality control of the parts we manufacture. With expansion and the advent of larger diameter roll work in the rotary die industry, BEST now offers:

  • Heat-Treating Capability For Virtually All Materials And Sizes
  • Uniform Hardness
  • Minimum Part Distortion
  • Larger Capacity Vacuum Heat-Treating Equipment

In-House Quality Control

Before we ship our products to you, we perform all inspections on-site. We have complete control over quality and delivery times.

We apply a number of quality control strategies to our products before they leave our facility, including:

  • Using optimal magnification up to 120x and microscopic inspection on die edges.
  • Using computer-controlled and manual gauge equipment to test all products for hardness and concentricity.
  • Duplicating actual production situations for our cutting dies.
